Mystery of the Melchizedek: The Meat of the Book of Hebrews

In the previous Mystery of the Melchizedek: Introduction post, there was a distinction made between the subset of Torah that is The Book of the Covenant that is of promise made to Abraham for blessing his descendants and the subset of Torah that is the Book of the Law that was written as a witness against Israel for transgressing the original Book of the Covenant with their golden calf transgression. The Book of the Covenant had been transgressed against, which broke the ability to live in the fulness of that covenant until Genesis 49:10 was enacted. So, from the conception of the golden calf transgression up until the fulfillment of Genesis 49:10, the whole of Israel lived under the Book of the Law.

Beresheeth-Genesis 49:10 “The scepter shall not depart from Yahudah nor a lawgiver from between His feet, until Shiloh comes; to Him shall the gathering of the nations be.”

Hebrews Chapter 6: Eternal Promise

The Book of the Covenant and the order of Melchizedek order of Messiah was still promised to Abraham and therefor destined to return in its full power even with the transgression gap being place-filled by the Book of the Law and the Levitical order of Aaron. The promise given to Abraham in Genesis 12 was set in place eternally by Yahuah swearing an oath to himself.

Ibrim-Hebrews 6:13-20 “13 When Eloah made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” 15 And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. 16 People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. 17 Because Eloah wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.18 Eloah did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for Eloah to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where our forerunner, Yahusha, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”

Psalm 110 “Yahuah says to my master: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” 2 Yahuah will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying, “Rule in the midst of your enemies!” 3 Your troops will be willing on your day of battle. Arrayed in holy splendor, your young men will come to you like dew from the morning’s womb. 4 Yahuah has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” 5 The master is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his wrath.6 He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead and crushing the rulers of the whole earth.7 He will drink from a brook along the way, and so he will lift his head high.”

Abraham was promised to be made into a great nation that would be a blessing to all of the families of the earth. That promised was sealed by an eternal oath.

Genesis 12:1-3 “Yahuah had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Hebrews Chapter 7: A Better Order

The Melchizedek Priesthood, being without beginning or end, had a form of administration on the earth prior to Abram, but the promise of the priesthood to be handed down to their offspring was made to Abram. The first mention of Melchizedek in scripture is the Melchizedek King of Salem who brought Abram bread and wine. Melchizedek means, “King of Righteousness” and Salem means “peace” or “shalom.” In the past, kings would also serve as priests, and Melchizedek of Salem happened to be serving as a priest to Yahuah; El Shaddai. Melchizedek king of Salem also blessed Abram. Abram further confirmed the oath by not allowing himself to accept anything from Sodom (spiritually meaning: the ways of the world).

Genesis 14:18-24 “18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of El Shaddai, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by El Shaddai, Creator of heaven and earth. 20 And praise be to El Shaddai, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything. 21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself.” 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to Yahuah, El Shaddai, Creator of heaven and earth, 23 that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’ 24 I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me—to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre. Let them have their share.””

Yahusha is the High Priest and perfect son of Yahuah who rose up in the Order of Melchizedek to secure the oath and promise made to Abram. The Levitical priesthood in the order of Aaron was unable to guarantee the promise made to Abram because that priesthood was not secured by an eternal oath. Aaron’s priesthood was a legal requirement to place-hold Israel’s descendants due to their transgression of the covenant.

Hebrews Chapter 8: Circumcision into Covenant

When Abram was given the initial promise, the original form of circumcision for male’s to enter the Book of the Covenant was circumcision of the foreskin of the flesh in Genesis Chapter 17. Circumcision of the foreskin of the flesh was a seal to the promise of the covenant. The seal of the promise occurred 430 years later at Mt. Sinai with The Book of the Covenant, but that seal was broken when the covenant was broken. The seal of circumcision of the foreskin of the flesh later became a seal to enter the then promised land, but no longer served as a seal for the covenant.

Yirmeyahu- Jeremiah 31:31-34 ““The days are coming,” declares Yahuah, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares Yahuah. 33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares Yahuah. “I will put my Torah in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their Elohim, and they will be my people. 33 No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know Yahuah,’
because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares Yahuah. “For I will forgive their wickedness, and will remember their sins no more.””

Yahauh no longer requires the circumcision of the foreskin of the flesh, but rather the circumcision of the hardness of the heart. He wants us to remove our fleshly nature and write his covenant Torah in our hearts and minds, not our physical flesh.

Hebrews Chapter 9: Blood Ratification

At Mt.Sinai, the Book of the Covenant was blood ratified in Exodus 24:8. Remember that a covenant has four parts: a proposal, an acceptance to the proposal, blood ratification and a covenant confirming meal.

Exodus 24:8 “Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that Yahuah has made with you in accordance with all these words.””

Blood ratifies a covenant because blood contains the life within something and only life (from something clean) has a high enough cost to make atonement. Yahusha is perfect and everlasting so the atonement made with his blood to ratify the covenant only had to be completed once to cover for all who enter the covenant.

Just as The Book of the Covenant was sprinkled with blood at Mt.Sinai, Yahusha shed his blood for the covenant to be made new at Passover.

Hebrews 10: Faith To Walk In Covenant

The subset of Torah that contains the Book of the Covenant spans from Genesis 1:1 up to Exodus 24:11 and any dove-tailing areas of Torah that connect back to Genesis 1:1 up to Exodus 24:11. This subset of Book of the Covenant Torah gives instruction for righteous living and how to live as a Kingdom of Priests and a Holy Set Apart Nation as Abraham was promised for his offspring. Yahusha is the High Priest, or Kohen Ha’Gadal, of the new covenant to walk in the order of Melchizedek-Righteous Royal Torah. We are to have our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience, which is the whole point of living righteously. If those who transgressed the first covenant and even went against the Book of the Law died without mercy, then how much worse will it be for those who deliberately go against the new covenant standard in the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrews 11-13: The Promise & Kingdom Obtained

Abram became Abraham, the father of the inheritance of the promise and yet did not obtain the promise to see his offspring live in the fullness of the covenant. Abraham and forward through the scriptures of the other patriarchs and matriarchs did not receive the promise of the inheritance of the fullness of the covenant, but those during the time of Messiah and forward have obtained it! They had faith in Yahuah El Shaddai in their lives even without seeing the full fruition of the Melchizedek Covenant. We, however, do live in the times where we can receive the full power of walking in Melchizedek Covenant because the promise was obtained through Messiah Yahusha!

Shemot-Exodus 19:5-6 “5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6 you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’..”

Ibrim-Hebrews 12:22-24 “22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living Eloah, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the assembly of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to Eloah, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 to Yahusha the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”
